While we're not pulling together or sharing our picks for TIFF's must-see films until next week, I decided to jump the gun a little and let you in on the one Midnight Madness film I'm super stoked to see. If you happened to catch the two intentional clues I dropped in that sentence (because I'm stealthy like that) then you'll be unsurprised to hear my pick is James Gunn's not-your-dad's-superhero-film SUPER.
Why did I pick today to share all this with you, loyal readers? Because the director himself just released the first two images from the movie and what better way to share, am I right? Check out the sneak peeks below then head here to tell us your Midnight Madness must-see film. Share and you could win 2 sets of passes to all 10 MM screenings!
Emma Stone's latest starring role comes in Sony Picture's fall release, Easy A. Stone takes on the role of Olive Penderghast, a clean cut high school girl who sees her life turned upside down when a lie about her lack of virginity makes its way around her high school like wildfire. Drawing parallels to the not-unfamiliar tale of Hawthorne's Hester Prynne in "The Scarlet Letter," Olive decides to take matters into her own hands and use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
The movie doesn't hit theatres until September 17 but to tide you over until then, we've got two clips from the film!
Watch them below and see if you don't fall just a little bit in love with Emma (and Olive) yourself!
Hollywood heavyweights Kevin Spacey and Sam Mendes are reuniting for a trans-Atlantic stage production of Richard III.
Spacey is set to star as the villainous (or misunderstood, depending on your viewpoint of historical events) Plantagenet English king in a Mendes-directed production Shakespeare's famous history play.
This venture will mark the first time the two men have worked together since their 1999 Academy Award-winning film American Beauty, which won five golden statuettes including a best actor nod for Spacey and best director win for Mendes.
Will the Shakespearean king be as kind to them come theatre award season? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) may not hit theatres until November 19 but that doesn't mean Warner Bros. is leaving fans high and dry! First we got an exciting look at the very first trailer in July, now we're getting a great big glimpse inside the first part of the Potter finale with brand new pics AND behind-the-scenes video. It's clear things are slowly ramping up toward a big (possibly record-breaking) opening for the highly anticipated seventh film in the hit series. The best part? The big promos for the showdown between The Boy Who Lived (Daniel Radcliffe) and He Who Must Not Be Named (Ralph Fiennes) are really just beginning! You just never know what's coming down the pipe next.
What's better than a summer movie about prehistoric killer fish sinking their teeth into unsuspecting, nubile spring breakers? A second movie about killer fish on the attack! That's right, Dimension Films announced today that a sequel to Piranha 3D is now in the works.
While Piranha 3D's box office take wasn't anything to write home about, debuting in sixth place this past weekend with $10.1 million, it was a hit with critics across the country, earning 81 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It wasn't just the professionals weighing in with unsurpressed glee either as the film got fans raving online, making the old-fashioned shock thriller a top Twitter trending topic over the last few days.
I know I'm not alone in finding American politics the most unintentionally entertaining thing around so it's completely unsurprising that Hollywood is really starting to capitalise on the big screen-ready fodder that it presents. First came W, the George "Dubya" Bush bio-pic starring Josh Brolin as the former president. Next up is Casino Jack, with Kevin Spacey starring as disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and then Fair Game, a drama about the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The scandal had all the markings of an edge-of-your-seat Hollywood spy thriller and now, with the film's first trailer, we see that sometimes the very best stories really are the ones happening right in front of you. Check it out!
